AI Visibility Audit Services

An AI Visibility Audit is a measured, written assessment of how your business currently appears across Google organic results, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Bing and Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, and why. It is for business owners who suspect they are missing from AI recommendations, are being described incorrectly, or are losing citations to competitors, and who want findings before spending on optimization. Fix Website Issues runs the audit the way it runs website repair diagnostics: technical access first, then entity, content, competitors, and conversion readiness. It is the starting point for every AI search optimization engagement.

What Is an AI Visibility Audit?

An AI Visibility Audit is a structured evaluation of whether, where, and how accurately a business appears in AI-assisted search experiences, combined with a diagnosis of the technical, entity, content, and authority factors behind the result, and a prioritized plan to improve it. Unlike a traditional SEO audit, which measures rankings and crawl health, it also records what generative platforms say about the business, which competitors they cite, and which outside sources those citations rely on.

The audit exists because AI visibility is easy to guess about and hard to know. A business owner can ask ChatGPT one question and draw the wrong conclusion. The audit replaces that with a fixed prompt set run consistently across platforms, crawler access tests with logged results, index coverage data from Google and Bing, and an entity consistency check across the web. The result is a baseline that later work can be measured against, and, often, a short list of technical problems that explain most of the gap.

Who the audit is for

Businesses that rank on Google but are absent from AI answers. Businesses that AI tools describe incorrectly. Businesses whose competitors are consistently recommended. Businesses that have just migrated, redesigned, or recovered from a hack and want to know what visibility survived. And any business that wants a defensible baseline before spending on ChatGPT SEO, GEO, or any other AI-focused work.

Signs you should audit before optimizing

  • You have never measured how AI platforms describe or recommend you.
  • Different people on your team get different answers from the same AI tool.
  • An agency has proposed AI SEO work without showing a baseline.
  • Traffic dropped after a migration, redesign, or security incident.
  • Competitors keep appearing where you expect to.

When an audit is not the right first step

If the site is currently hacked, down, or throwing errors, that is repaired first by our website repair and SEO specialists; an audit of a broken site mostly documents the breakage. If you already have a recent baseline and a clear technical bill of health, you may go straight to the relevant optimization service.

The 12 Categories Every AI Visibility Audit Covers

Each category is scored, evidenced, and explained. Not every platform exposes performance data; where it does not, findings come from repeatable manual tests and are labeled as observations.

  1. Google organic visibilitySearch Console impressions, clicks, and page-level performance for service and location queries; index coverage and errors.
  2. Google generative AI visibilityWhether AI Overviews and AI Mode appear for your key queries, and whether your pages are among the cited sources.
  3. Bing and Copilot citation activityBing Webmaster Tools verification, index coverage, and the AI performance report: pages cited, total citations, grounding-query associations.
  4. ChatGPT visibilityA fixed prompt set run repeatedly; mentions, citations, accuracy, and competitors recorded. Crawler access for OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User tested.
  5. Gemini visibilityThe same prompt set on Gemini, with source attribution logged where shown.
  6. Perplexity visibilityThe same prompt set on Perplexity, which cites sources explicitly, making it a useful check on which pages are being retrieved.
  7. Brand and entity consistencyName, address, phone, categories, services, and people compared across the site, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple, directories, and social profiles; schema accuracy.
  8. Competitor visibilityWhich competitors are named and cited per platform and query, and which outside sources support them.
  9. Content coverageWhether service, location, and supporting pages answer what, where, for whom, how, and why trust, and whether key facts exist as readable text.
  10. Technical SEOCrawl blocks, rendering, canonicals, redirects, duplicates, speed, security state, and sitemap health; fetch tests as every relevant crawler.
  11. Citation and reference opportunitiesReviews, directories, associations, and editorial sources already cited in your category that you are missing from.
  12. Conversion readinessWhether a visitor arriving from an AI answer can act: phone, forms, hours, location, proof, and tracking for AI referrals.

How the Audit Works

1. Intake

A short call or form: your services, markets, top competitors, and the questions customers ask before choosing you. You grant read access to Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and analytics where available.

2. Technical and access checks

We fetch key pages as Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, and PerplexityBot, review robots.txt and firewall rules, confirm rendering, and review index coverage on both engines. This is the same diagnostic we run in SEO repair work.

3. Prompt benchmark

A prompt set built from your intake, typically 15 to 30 questions, is run on each platform. Responses are recorded verbatim with date, platform, and any cited sources.

4. Entity, content, and competitor review

Listings and profiles are compared line by line. Pages are scored for readability by a crawler and usefulness to a buyer. Cited competitors are traced back to the sources supporting them.

5. Findings and roadmap

You receive a written document: the scorecard, the evidence, and a roadmap ranked by impact and effort, technical blockers first. We walk through it with you on a call. What you do with it is up to you.

How Fix Website Issues Approaches the Audit

Technical blockers explain more than people expect. Across the audits we have run, the single most common finding is a crawler block or rendering problem, not a content weakness. So access is tested first and reported with logs.

Consistency matters more than any single test. One ChatGPT answer proves nothing. The same prompt set, run the same way each month, is what turns anecdotes into a trend.

The roadmap is ordered by dependency. A content rewrite is pointless on a page Bing has not indexed. Findings are sequenced so each fix makes the next one measurable.

We report what we cannot measure. Where a platform provides no data, the audit says so instead of inventing a score.

What the audit cannot tell you

  • Why a specific AI model chose one source over another; platforms do not disclose that.
  • A guaranteed outcome from any fix. The audit improves the odds and makes results measurable.
  • Complete performance data from every platform. Only Google and Bing provide first-party reporting; the rest is observed.

AI Visibility Audit vs Traditional SEO Audit

The AI audit includes the technical core of an SEO audit and adds what a rankings-only review cannot see.

Why Have Fix Website Issues Run the Audit

Fix Website Issues is the website repair and technical SEO division of WevTEC, based in Houston and working nationwide since 2013. The audit is built from the diagnostics we use when a site has lost visibility after a hack, migration, redesign, or plugin conflict, extended to AI platforms. That background means technical causes are found rather than assumed, and if you choose to have us implement the roadmap, the same team does the work on WordPress, WooCommerce, and custom sites.

Example of how a typical audit unfolds (illustrative, not a case study). A multi-location physical therapy group asks why ChatGPT recommends two competitors and lists one of its clinics at a closed address. The audit finds a security plugin blocking OAI-SearchBot, no Bing verification, location pages that are near-duplicates with the address only in an image, and three different business names across directories. The roadmap: unblock and verify (week 1), rebuild location pages with readable address, provider, and service text (weeks 2 to 4), align listings and add LocalBusiness schema (weeks 2 to 4), then re-run the prompt set monthly. Outcomes vary by market and are not guaranteed.

Google and Bing provide first-party reporting. ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity do not offer a performance dashboard, so those findings come from a fixed prompt set run consistently and recorded verbatim. The audit labels them as observations, not platform-reported metrics.

It includes the technical core of an SEO audit and adds AI crawler access tests, recorded AI prompt results, Bing’s AI citation data, full entity consistency, and a competitor citation map. A rankings-only audit cannot see any of that.

No. The roadmap is yours. Some clients implement it in-house, some use another vendor, and some have our team do the work through AI Search Optimization or one of the specialized services.

Most audits are delivered within one to two weeks of receiving access, depending on site size and the number of markets and competitors. Larger multi-location sites take longer. We confirm timing at intake.
