AI Search Optimization is the work of making a business easier to discover, understand, and reference across Google Search, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Bing and Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. It is for companies that rank on Google but rarely appear in AI-generated answers, or whose competitors are being cited instead. Fix Website Issues approaches it as a website repair and technical SEO company: the technical foundation is fixed first, then the content, entity, and authority signals that search engines and AI systems rely on are strengthened.

AI Search Optimization is the practice of improving how a website and brand are discovered, understood, evaluated, and referenced by AI-assisted search systems, while keeping the technical SEO and content foundations that traditional search still requires. It covers the AI features inside Google and Bing as well as standalone assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. The work is not a trick or a special markup; it is a combination of technical repair, content clarity, entity consistency, and third-party credibility that makes a business easy for both a search engine and a language model to retrieve and describe accurately.
AI search does not replace SEO. Google has stated that the same fundamentals apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode: crawlable, indexable pages with useful content, sensible internal links, and structured data that matches what visitors see. Bing and Copilot rely on Bing’s index. ChatGPT search draws on a web index and OpenAI’s own crawler. If a page cannot be crawled and indexed, no AI feature will surface it. That is why this service starts with the same technical repair work Fix Website Issues has done since 2013, then extends it to how AI systems interpret and reuse what they find.
AI Search Optimization is the umbrella. The specialized services below focus on one platform or one layer of the problem, and each links back here:
Traditional SEO gets a page ranked as a link. AI Search Optimization makes the business behind that page easy for an AI system to find, trust, and name in an answer. You need both, and the first is a prerequisite for the second.
The businesses that get the most from this service share one trait: prospects are already asking AI tools for recommendations in their category, and the answer is being decided by whichever competitor is easiest to find and describe. That plays out differently by business type.
Medical practices and healthcare groups. Patients ask ChatGPT and Google’s AI features which clinic handles a specific procedure near them. Practices with vague service pages, inconsistent provider listings, and thin location data are skipped even when they rank well for their own name. Much of our SEO work has been for physicians, dental practices, urgent care, and specialty clinics, so this pattern is familiar.
Law firms and professional services. AI answers favor firms whose practice areas, jurisdictions, and attorney credentials are stated plainly and corroborated by bar listings, directories, and reviews.
Local and home service companies. Plumbers, remodelers, HVAC, flooring, and auto shops depend on “who should I call” queries. Entity consistency across Google Business Profile, Bing Places, and the website matters more here than anywhere else.
Ecommerce and multi-location brands. Product and location pages that are technically crawlable but structurally weak, duplicated, or blocked by JavaScript rendering issues are common. These are technical problems before they are marketing problems.
Any company with strong Google rankings but no AI presence. This is the most frequent situation we see: the site ranks, but the brand is invisible in AI answers because of crawler blocks, a weak Bing footprint, or conflicting public information.
If the site has active malware, broken pages, severe speed problems, or an unfinished migration, fix that first. Our website repair and SEO specialists handle those issues before any AI-focused work, because optimization on a broken foundation does not hold. If the goal is only a single Google ranking for one keyword, conventional SEO repair services may be the better fit.
Most AI invisibility traces back to a handful of causes. Each card pairs the symptom with the work that resolves it.
Problem: prospects ask for providers in your category and you are never named. Solution: crawler access, index coverage, and answer-first service pages that give AI systems something specific to retrieve.
Problem: the same two or three rivals are cited for every query. Solution: competitor citation analysis to find which sources and content types they are winning on, then closing those gaps on your own domain.
Problem: different names, categories, and addresses across the web leave AI systems unsure who you are. Solution: entity consistency review, Organization and LocalBusiness schema that matches visible content, and aligned profiles.
Problem: pages exist but bury the answer under slogans, sliders, and images. Solution: content architecture that leads with the service, area, audience, and proof, so passages can be understood on their own.
Problem: nothing outside your site confirms what your site claims. Solution: citation and reference opportunity analysis, review strategy, and listings in the directories and associations relevant to your field.
Problem: no baseline, so no way to tell whether anything is working. Solution: a repeatable query set across platforms, Bing Webmaster Tools citation data, Search Console, and AI referral tracking in analytics.
Every engagement is scoped after the audit, but the work falls into four groups. Nothing here is a black box: each item is a task with an output you can see.
Technical items are handled by the same team that performs WordPress repair and website maintenance for our clients, so fixes are made directly rather than handed to a third party.
Recommendations made without a baseline are guesses. Every AI Search Optimization project starts with a ten-stage evaluation that produces a written findings document and a prioritized roadmap. Clients see what was checked, what was found, and why each fix is ranked where it is.
Stages one through three are the same checks used in our website repair work. If they fail, they are fixed before stages four through ten are acted on.
Six stages, in a fixed order. The order matters: content and authority work done before the technical layer is stable tends to be wasted.
Run the ten-stage evaluation, record the AI prompt set, and capture Search Console and Bing data. Everything later is measured against this snapshot.
Fix crawl blocks, rendering problems, redirect chains, duplicate URLs, speed issues, and security warnings. Verify that Google, Bing, and AI crawlers return full text for every key page.
Group the questions buyers ask a search box and an AI assistant by service and location. Decide which page should answer each one, and where a new page is needed.
Rewrite core pages to state the service, area, audience, process, and proof in plain language. Align business details everywhere and add schema that matches what visitors can read.
Pursue the listings, reviews, associations, and editorial mentions that corroborate the site, prioritized by which sources AI platforms are already citing in your category.
Re-run the prompt set monthly, compare Search Console, Bing citation data, and AI referral traffic against the baseline, and adjust the roadmap based on what moved.
Our approach comes from years of being called in after something broke: a hacked site, a failed migration, a redesign that lost rankings, a plugin conflict that silently blocked crawlers. Those jobs taught us that visibility problems are usually diagnosed backwards. The marketing team blames content when the real cause is a firewall rule, a canonical tag pointing to the wrong URL, or service pages that render as empty shells to any crawler that does not execute JavaScript. So the working philosophy is deliberately unglamorous:
Two observations from client work shape how we prioritize. First, a surprising share of “AI invisibility” cases are resolved at step two: a security plugin or CDN rule was blocking OAI-SearchBot or Bingbot, and nothing else was wrong. Second, sites that rank well on Google but not in AI answers almost always have a weak Bing footprint, which is why Bing Webmaster Tools verification is part of every baseline.
The two overlap heavily. The differences are in what gets measured and which signals carry the most weight.
| Area | Traditional SEO | AI Search Optimization |
|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Rank pages as links in Google and Bing results | Be retrieved, understood, and referenced in AI-generated answers, while still ranking |
| Where it matters | Classic search result pages, local packs | AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, plus classic results |
| Typical work | Technical fixes, keyword-targeted pages, links | All of the above, plus entity consistency, answer-first content, corroboration, and AI crawler access |
| Measurement | Rankings, impressions, clicks | Prompt-set citations, Bing AI performance data, AI referral traffic, plus classic metrics |
| Best use case | Winning specific keyword rankings | Being recommended when buyers ask an assistant for a provider |
| Limitations | Rankings alone do not guarantee AI mentions | No control over AI outputs; results vary by query, user, location, and model |
Situation. A specialty practice with four clinics ranks well for its brand name and a few procedures, but AI assistants recommend two competitors for “best [specialty] near me” and list one of its locations at an old address.
Likely findings. Location pages built as image-heavy templates with little readable text; provider names formatted differently across the site, Google Business Profile, and insurance directories; a security plugin blocking non-Google bots; no Bing Webmaster Tools verification.
Sequence. Unblock crawlers and verify Bing (week 1). Rebuild location and procedure pages with plain-language service, insurance, provider, and address details (weeks 2 to 4). Align every listing to one canonical name, address, and phone; add LocalBusiness and Physician schema matching the pages (weeks 3 to 5). Prioritize reviews and directory listings for the sources AI tools already cite in that specialty (ongoing).
How success is measured. The same 15 prompts re-run monthly per location, Bing citation data, Search Console impressions for procedure queries, and AI referral sessions in analytics. This is how the work is structured; outcomes vary by market and are not guaranteed.
We can review your current organic visibility, AI citations, crawler access, website structure, content, and competitive positioning before recommending any changes. You get a written findings document either way.
Fix Website Issues is the website repair and technical SEO division of WevTEC, a Houston company that has been fixing broken, hacked, slow, and poorly indexed websites since 2013. AI search work grew out of that repair practice rather than being bolted on as a trend. The people diagnosing your AI visibility are the same people who handle hacked website repair, migrations, and WordPress errors, which matters because the two problems overlap far more than most agencies acknowledge.
What that background changes in practice:
Strategy and technical implementation are handled by the Fix Website Issues technical SEO team under WevTEC. This page was written and reviewed by that team and last updated in September 2026. Learn more about the team.

AI Search Optimization is the practice of making a website and brand easier for AI-assisted search systems to discover, understand, and reference, while maintaining the technical SEO and content foundations that traditional search requires. It covers Google’s AI features, Bing and Copilot, and assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
SEO aims to rank pages as links. AI Search Optimization aims to have the business retrieved and named in AI-generated answers. The technical work overlaps almost completely; the additions are entity consistency, answer-first content, third-party corroboration, AI crawler access, and different measurement.
Yes. Google has said the same fundamentals apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Bing’s AI features rely on Bing’s index. A page that is not crawlable and indexable cannot appear in any AI feature. SEO is the prerequisite, not an alternative.
It improves the conditions that make a mention more likely: OpenAI’s search crawler can read your site, your pages are indexed, your business information is consistent everywhere, and third-party sources corroborate it. It cannot force a mention. See our ChatGPT SEO page for the platform-specific detail.
No, and no honest provider can. AI outputs vary by query, user, location, and model version, and no agency controls them. We measure changes against a baseline and report what moved; we do not promise specific citations, rankings, traffic, or leads.
Accurate structured data helps search engines and AI systems understand what a page is about and which profiles belong to your business. It supports clarity; it does not cause citations. Google does not require any special schema type for AI features, and schema that does not match visible content should be avoided.
Four sources, reviewed together: a fixed set of buyer-style prompts re-run monthly across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI features; Bing Webmaster Tools citation and grounding data; Google Search Console; and AI referral sessions in analytics. Manual prompt tests are documented as observations, not rankings.
Technical fixes such as crawler access and indexing usually take effect within days of a re-crawl. Entity cleanup takes weeks. Measurable changes in AI mentions typically appear over several weeks to a few months, depending on competition and how much corroboration the brand already has. Timelines are estimates, not guarantees.
Start with the AI Visibility Audit. Without a baseline there is no way to know which of the four common causes applies to you or whether later work is helping. If the audit finds a broken foundation, that is repaired first.
